The first hour matters. Catch the water in buckets and move furniture and electronics out of the drip zone. If the ceiling is bulging, pierce a small hole in the centre of the bulge to release the water in a controlled way – it feels wrong, but it can save the whole ceiling. If water is anywhere near light fittings or sockets, switch off that circuit at the consumer unit.
